FAIR ISLE is special: it has spectacular sceney, huge seabird colonies, a world famous Bird Observatory, traditional knitwear....and a friendly crofting community. This uniquely beautiful island, owned by The National Trust of Scotland, lies midway between Orkney and Shetland, 24 miles southwest of Sumburgh Head. The island, only three by one and a half miles,is situsted in a most suitable geographic position for studying bird migration. Besides showing the natural beauty of the island with its spectacular scenery. The video offers insights into the lifestyles of the islanders and their social activities. FAIR ISLE has been recognised with Council of Europe. Diploma and this award has to be added to a battery of other designations: Special Protection Area, Siteof Special Scientic Interest, National Scenic Area, Environmentally Sensitive Area.
