The Norse name means "birds island" and FOULA has more than 500.000 breeding birds with the largest colony of Great Skuas (Bonxies) in the world. This small island, lying 14 miles west of the mainland of Shetland, has the second highest cliff of the U.K. rising to the most isolated community in Britain, was chosen by Michael Powell for the making of the now classic film "The Edge of the World".
